Deal with the Devil?

Here's an editorial in Newsmax from Wes Vernon that pretty much sums up all of my worries over the last minute deal over judicial filibusters. Can a leapord really change it's spots? Have the Democrats stuck to their promises in the past? Remember when Bush tried to make a deal with Ted Kennedy and the Democrats to cut down on their criticism by increasing education spending? Did the Democrats stick to that deal? No! So I'm a little skeptical. And considering all the gloating from the Democrats over their victory over Bill Frist and the evil right wing, I'm not that optimistic. Apparently, the Democrats still reserve the right to filibuster any nomination in "extraordinary circumstances," which according to them, means the President should consult them about any new nominations. In other words, he can only nominate who they say he can nominate. Doesn't sound too appealing, but the whole thing does make them look worse, and the Republicans can still try to change the filibuster rules if necessary. But that idea still makes me queasy. What if the Democrats take back the majority? That will be one less weapon in our arsenal!
